Everybody’s favourite bizarrely-proportioned doll is turning 60 this year, and the Barbie-themed celebrations are in full swing. You could treat yourself to a beautiful and probably-really-valuable-one-day Barbie anniversary doll, or you’re a super-fan could check yourself into the Barbie hotel suite at the Hilton.
The Hilton in Mexico City Santa Fe is hosting a Barbie-themed suite until December 2019. You can check in while standing on a signature pink carpet, take a selfie with a human-sized pink Barbie shoe, then make your way up to your special room where everything is either pink or adorable.
Even the bathrooms are kitted out with all those cool but expensive Barbie things your mom wouldn’t buy you when you were little, like the Barbie toothpaste, the Barbie shampoo, and the big Barbie bust you can play hairdresser-hairdresser with.
There is the main room, where you’ll find beautiful vintage posters and Barbie-approved artworks…
…But we’re most interested in the room that’s technically for children, featuring a life-sized Barbie camper van.
In case you didn’t know, ‘Barbie loves to travel, enjoys nature and cares about the environment, without forgoing the comfort of the most sophisticated accommodations’ according to Andres Korngold, general manager of Hilton Mexico City Santa Fe. When building the suite, which took about 20 weeks to complete, they wanted to create a space where guests could go ‘glamping‘ (that’s glamorous camping BTW). Fake grass that doesn’t itch, a play-play fire place that doesn’t make your hair smell like braai, and a bed shaped like a caravan? This beats actual camping any day TBH.
And when you’re not living it up in your suite you can head downstairs to try out their Barbie-inspired menu, featuring pink parfait, raspberry spongecake, and Barbie smoothies.
The room costs around R3000 a night but is pretty priceless in terms of photo ops.
