Here Are the Most Streamed Local Songs and Albums in South Africa

Local beats are lekker! 🔥

South Africans have great taste in music. It’s just a fact, fam. No, seriously, we actually have the stats to back it up! Spotify recently shared the top artists and tracks as streamed by South African audiences*, and they are fire.

The clear front-runner for the most streamed artist was Canadian superstar Drake, with his global hit In My Feelings. However, 2018 has also truly been a lekker year for local artists, both in South Africa and abroad.

Mzansi Music On Top

Mzansi icon AKA took the number one spot with his hit single Fela In Versace, a true banger that also graced Spotify’s African Heat global playlist. Other local bops included Lady Zamar’s Collide, Mlindo The Vocalist’s AmaBlesser (featuring DJ Maphorisa), and Suited and Please Mr from Shekhinah.

Black Coffee’s recently released Drive (featuring David Guetta) has also proven a firm favourite and is expected to continue its meteoric climb of 2018’s most streamed songs as the festive season approaches.
