The People in New York Are Wearing Jewellery on Their Faces

A magpie’s dream.

It’s Fashion Month ladies, which means one thing: We’re sure to be served with a healthy dose of new and innovative trends.

Weird and wonderful sh*t always goes down at New York Fashion Week and this season is no exception. The latest WTF trend that emerged has caught us off our stylish guard and we’re rather intrigued.

Eveningwear label Area’s show saw models strutting their stuff bling down the runway, completely adorned with rhinestones and jewels, and draped in nameplate chains. However, this wasn’t the regular jewellery-clad runway, noooo, quite the contrary. This time around the jewels took centre stage on models faces, heads and necks (including jawlines, like glitzy beards) and with chains hanging wherever they feasibly could.

Here’s The Facial Jewellery We’re Talking About:

Interestingly, this isn’t the first season Area has opted for facebeat-jewellery (yes, we just coined the term) – last season they also delved into a pool of face-clad jewels.

What’s more is that Area wasn’t the only brand that incorporated facial jewellery into their show. Vfiles Runway and London-based fashion marketplace Depop featured exactly that but for the more minimalist magpie:

And, although we’re like ‘omg, groundbreaking’ (and as far as fashion goes, it kinda is), this isn’t the first time a brand has experimented with facial jewellery.

Other Brands That Have Experimented With Facial Jewellery:

Couture and bridal designer, Keren Wolf, is known to play around with facial jewels on the reg:

And ofc, how could we forget Givenchy’s AW ’15 and SS ’16 shows where models wore intricate pearl and gem-encrusted jewellery – including septum rings.

We’re kinda like why has facial jewellery not become a thing already, but also – we’re questioning the comfort levels involved. Thoughts? We may be rocking this new trend come festival season. #JustSaying
