When you hear the words Coachella, the word ‘Crocs’ doesn’t necessarily come into mind. However, after trying on a few pairs of Crocs pre-Coachella, myself and our Senior Beauty Editor, Zipho Ntloko, couldn’t resist taking a few pairs of Crocs clogs (yes, we’re serious) and sliders to the most talked about music festival of the world.
Here’s how we styled our Crocs and why we soon realised that we couldn’t have found a better ‘Chella footwear choice. #RockTheCrocAtChella
Day one of our ‘Chella adventure arrived and to say we were excited is a major understatement! I went for a sporty mesh two-piece, worn with a zebra belt and cyclist inspired sunnies. Crocs’ black platform sliders with a graphic white sole were a perfect match given my sporty black and white aesthetic. We (very) soon realised just how dusty Coachella is (no one tells you!) which meant we could literally throw them into the shower once home, and they looked brand new. I feel scared thinking about how any other shoes would have turned out post-Chella, but I assume they’d be taking a swift trip to the bin.
Zipho went for a matchy-matchy zebra printed bralette and wide-leg pants, paired with the all-black Crocs sliders, embellished with the cutest rose-gold flower appliqué. We loved these so much!
For day two, I was all about the ‘Grecian meets desert warrior’ look and wore all-white, mixed a touch of bohemian, in the form of my shell choker necklace and rope waist belt, and a crazily embellished silver baker hat. Crocs’ grey classic clogs perfectly complimented the look without taking away from the main focus, my disco-Chella hat.
Let me tell you – my feet thanked me both during Ari’s performance, and on the 30-minute walk to the exit. I should also mention that my shoes were quite the hit, with people stopping to tell me they loved my look, specifically pointing out the Crocs (what one person described as a ‘bold move’). Yaaas.
Zee looked fierce in a reflective grey sporty skirt set, white sporty sunnies (to play on that ‘motorsport’ vibe) and grey platform Crocs sliders – simultaneously killing it in this tonal, head-to-toe monochrome aesthetic, a huge trend in 2019.
We decided to fully embrace the animal print trend on our last and final day in the desert. I wore a zebra print dress, belt bag, baker cap and the Crocs clog platforms. These were one of my favourite pairs! I love their chunkiness, black and white graphic design and of course, it goes without saying, they’re super comfy. Just to put it into context, we walked about 20 000 steps every day – more than quadruple what I usually walk on any given day (don’t judge). Any other shoes would have limited us at ‘Chella, TBH.
Zee wore a long-sleeved zebra-print dress in a deep mustard yellow, which she perfectly paired with neutral-hued classic clogs in the colour ‘cobblestone’.
We also didn’t realise how reasonable Crocs are. They’re almost half the price of what I thought they were, at R399 for the classic clogs and R599 for the platform sliders and clogs.
It was also cool (and kinda funny) to have seen other Crocs’ wearers at Coachella. Two fellow Crocs wearers that stood out for us was a very ‘cool-looking’ girl in a streetwear-inspired look which she wore with bright pink sliders (and kind of made me regret not wearing ones in a brighter colour) as well as a guy with a lumo look and white Crocs clogs that he had embellished himself – super cool! Obviously, we bonded. It’s what you do when you see such unique specimens wearing such unique footwear choices. High five, guys!
Name a pair of comfier shoes that could have been more perfect for Coachella? We’ll wait.
