The Kardashian-Jenner clan and Instagram’s tendency to hype up the weirdest trends out there resulted in a series of fads that either had us scratching our heads or staring at our screens in sheer perplexity. Scroll down to see the trends that raised all the eyebrows this year.

The 9 most crazy AF fashion trends of 2019:

1 Face jewellery

We all know that cool sh*t goes down at New York Fashion Week, and this year was no exception. The latest WTF trend that emerged from the runway during fashion house Area’s show, saw models’ faces completely adorned with rhinestones and jewels. Festival facebeat, anyone?

2 Laces wrapped over trousers

‘Started on the ‘Gram and now it’s here’… Lace-up sandals, with the laces tied over your pants or jeans, was one of the whackiest yet coolest micro-trends we saw on Instagram this year. The trend literally solidified itself as the ‘secret styling trick every cool girl worth her salt was trying out‘. Were you cool enough, hunny?

3 One-toe shoes

Oh, hi, one-toe shoe trend that came along and hit the fashion industry with a loud ‘whack’, earlier this yearThese rather interesting shoes (with the general silhouette consisting of your big toe being divided from the other four) was embraced by brands like Y/Project and Maison Margiela.

4 High-heeled flip flops

Earlier this year, while on a trip to Las Vegas, Kylie Jenner wore a head-turning outfit…Which no one paid attention to because they were *shooketh* by the sight of her plastic flip-flop heels (UHM?). Then we remembered we’d seen these before on none other than big sis, Kim Kardashian. We tried to block them out of our memory and nearly, almost, kinda managed to do so, until…

5 High-heeled sneakers

We all remember our tween selves owning the sneaker wedge, right? How could we forget, it still haunts us. Well, this year the past came back to haunt us: hybrid sneaker-heels became a thing. Picture this: your favourite stiletto heels met your dad sneakers and had a baby… So, who do we have to blame for this retro revival? London-based designer Ancuta Sarca’s who birthed these sportswear-meets-kitten-heels hybrids. And so the saying goes, ‘nice from far but far from nice’.

6 Teeny-tiny handbags

When Designer Jacquemus sent models down the runway carrying micro bags during Paris Fashion Week we were sceptical… The bags were basically a doll-size version of the designer’s bestseller, the ‘Le Saq Chiquito’ bag. We had questions… Like, where would our phones go? We reduced the trend to a ‘catwalk only’ situation. But, then, fashion peeps and their aunts starting posting them on the ‘Gram and we couldn’t help but admit they were real cute. Soo, lipstick and (maybe) keys it was! P.S. The trend proved its worth when Lizzo wore a teeny-tiny bag to the American Music Awards this year.

7 One-legged catsuits and shapewear

Leave it to the Kardashian-Jenners to come out with another unconventional trend: one-legged garments. On National Sister Day, Kim took to Instagram to post a rather interesting pic of herself and Kylie in one-legged catsuits. Of course, the internet screamed with memes. And, let’s not forget the range of one-legged shapewear pants Kim launched prior to this incident for her shapewear line, Skims.

8 The naked body stocking

Yet another Kardashian-Jenner-born trend: naked body stockings. From the fishnet body stocking Khloe wore as she celebrated her friends birthdays in Las Vegas, to the time Khloe, Kourtney and Kendall wore sparkly see-through body stockings during an at-home photoshoot, it was the YEAR of the bodystockings! Of course, brands like Fashion Nova and Pretty Little Thing jumped onto the bodystocking bandwagon so that the world could join in on this barely-there trend. #BraceUsAll

9 Visible g-strings

While the wearing of visible G-strings as an ‘outfit feature’, has come in and out of fashion, it hasn’t been an ‘acceptable’ trend in the fashion world since the early 2000s (think: Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and even Halle Berry owning theirs in public)… Until this year. This 2019 Kylie Jenner, Alexa Demie, Hailey Baldwin, Kim Kardashian and Bella Hadid all proved that G-string-baring days are back and even acceptable on the red carpet. Can you EVEN?
