A month ago COSMO’s Fashion Director, Bev Nates, hopped onto a plane and flew to LA, the home of all our fave A-listers – including our cover star, Blac Chyna. Not only did Bev style the Rob & Chyna reality TV star and entrepreneur, but she also collaborated with some of SA’s hottest up-and-coming designers for the cover shoot.
It’s time to get to know Samantha Sayers – one of the cover-shoot designers. We asked Sam some questions to see how she felt about being a part of creating her wardrobe and displaying her pieces on an international platform.
She is the designer of the gorgeous high-waisted bottoms, bubblegum-pink apron and jacket made out of actual waffles. #Yum

How did you become a designer?
I’ve always expressed myself through clothing. I studied fashion for three years and once I graduated, I knew the only area in the fashion industry where I would want to work was design. I’ve recently started my own company (Collide) and I’m certain I’ll never look back.
Describe your aesthetic in one sentence?
Military-inspired, hip-hop designs with a touch of sexy and a lot of attitude.
What was your inspiration behind the piece?
You can see a prominent hip-hop influence in the garments I’ve created.
Take us through your creative process.
My creative process always involves a lot of research about the subject matter and the style story I’m designing for. It’s incredibly important to have extensive knowledge and understanding of what you’re going to be designing. I like to get a few sketches done during my research stage. Then I like to visit a few fabric stores just to have a look around – the fabrics I find often inspire a redesign. Then comes the construction process. Once my garments are made, I feel a powerful sense of joy that makes the long, tiring process so worth it!
How do you feel knowing that Blac Chyna wore your garments?
It feels incredibly surreal knowing that Blac Chyna has worn my garments! This whole opportunity feels like a dream to me.
Can our readers purchase these pieces from you?
These pieces were designed and created specifically for the Blac Chyna cover shoot and are, unfortunately, once-off pieces. However, I’m always available to anyone who needs something made for them.
Do you have any advice for other designers on how to get your work out there?
Take every opportunity you can – the more people you reach, the more success you’ll achieve. Remember to stay true to who you are as a designer as it’s important to make sure you’re being represented with integrity.
Bev worked with Samantha and all the designers every step of the way, from conceptualising pieces to helping them show off Chyna’s curvaceous figure. #COSMOFashion
