Elonë, who lives in Karlsruhe, Germany, is speaking out about gender equality using sanitary pads to grab our attention – and it’s working. On International Women’s Day (March 8) she stuck up period pads – with strong feminist messages attached – around the city and has garnered support from people all over the world.

Elonë says she was inspired by a tweet from Twitter user @Cutequeer96:
Women have responded to her Tumblr project, asking if they, too, can use her idea to create awareness of gender equality and street harassment.
Some critics have deemed her project too controversial and offensive. But her emotive, powerful words have got people talking and will hopefully lead to change and debate around women’s rights and rape.
