So they invented a smart condom named S.T.EYE that glows a different colour if comes into contact with an STD.
According to reports, the condom uses a built-in indicator that changes colour, depending on the bacteria or infection it detects. The students said it may glow green for chlamydia, yellow for herpes, purple for human papillomavirus or blue for syphilis.
The invention earned them the top health-innovation prize at London’s TeenTech Awards, which includes £1 000 ( R19 000) and a trip to Buckingham Palace. Unfortunately, the condoms are not available just yet. ‘They are very much a concept and not a finalised design,’ said a TeenTech Awards spokesperson in an interview with The Daily Dot.
