It’s been 6 years since law graduate and model Reeva Steenkamp was tragically shot and killed by her boyfriend Oscar Pistorius. Pistorius is currently serving a 13-year sentence after being found guilty of murder by the Supreme Court of Appeals. Now, Steenkamp’s family is ready to tell the story of the impact of her murder had on those who love her in a new tell-all documentary.
The series, titled My Name is Reeva, is set to be produced by director and co-producer Warren Batchelor and co-producer Tony Miguel and will take a look at the ‘story of Reeva Steenkamp through the eyes of her loved ones, including her mother June Steenkamp and her father Barry’ according to a statement by Uprise.Africa.
The crowdfunding platform is running a fundraising campaign for the project, hoping to raise R40million for the project. ‘Investment in this documentary should be seen as our gift to Reeva on what would have been her 34th birthday. The funding will be open to private funders during the launch and will be open to the public in due course.’ said Tabassum Qadir, CEO of Uprise.Africa
‘Through this documentary, we are determined to tell Reeva’s story, people will get to see another side that seeks to answer some of the questions that have been left unanswered, the truth, and who Reeva was. She would want us to do this for her,’ said Reeva’s mom, June Steenkamp.
