It has been a VERY busy year for SA politics and the drama does not seem to be slowing down. From brawls in parliament to shocking developments from the state capture inquiry, the fluctuating rand and the necessary discussions about the land debate. It seems the 2019 election is a really important moment for South Africans to make their mark.

Ready Set Vote: National Elections Set For May 2019

The IEC announced on Wednesday, 8 November in Pretoria that the national elections are set to happen in May 2019. President Ramaphosa will announce the exact dates early next year however the election must be done and dusted by end August 2019.

This means by this time next year the leadership of the country could look very different from what we know it as now.


Wait, but how do I register to vote?

Final voting registration is set to take place on 26-27 January 2019. According to the IEC, ‘SA’s 22 932 voting stations will open from 8am-5pm both days to allow first-time voters to register, and registered voters to check and update their registration details.’

Remember, if you are 16 and above you can register to vote however only those who are 18 years and older can vote.
