Kicking Butt, and Keep Safe

A friend asked me the other day, Where do I even begin with keeping safe in South Africa?

I could say safety begins at the COSMO Kicks Butt self-defence workshops which begin in August (and which I certainly encourage you to attend) but really, safety begins with you and your attitude.

I could say safety begins at the COSMO Kicks Butt self-defence workshops which begin in August (and which I certainly encourage you to attend) but really, safety begins with you and your attitude.

Do you walk with confidence and generate a strong, positive energy? Do you hold your head up high so that your surroundings are visible to you? Ask your best friend to watch you while you walk – you might be surprised to find out that you are totally unaware of your suroundings – in lala-land, as I say. Or your friend might tell you that you walk with a soldier`s march and an attitude that tells the world `Don`t mess with me!`

Do you have that look of confidence on your face when you open the door to a complete stranger? Consider your tone of voice. Does it tell the world: `I am in control. I am sure of myself’. Practise `the look` in the mirror – it might be all it takes to scare off a chancer who thinks you`re an easy target.

And trust your intuition. If you have a gut feeling that the person standing in front of you is no good, you`re probably right!
Here’s what else you need: an urgent desire to get out of a bad situation; a willingness to do whatever it takes to achieve that desire, and a firm belief that you can succeed. This could mean doing things that you never dreamed of doing, or never knew your body was capable of doing. You have to learn to believe that you have the mental, emotional and physical strength to grab a man by the groin, to twist and turn it until he shrieks with pain and not to let go until he is crawling around on the floor in agony, begging you to stop.

Do this, and you would have made the mind-shift from being a victim to being an empowered human being.

Hope to see you at one of my workshops! Click here to find out more.

Till my next blog, practise the walk and the talk, and remember that these basics could stop an attack before it starts!
