Greta Thunberg, the badass 16-year-old environmental activist who’s leading massive strikes against governments and businesses that fail to act on climate change, just went to the United Nations’ Climate Action Summit and delivered a powerful speech tearing apart greedy politicians.
After the Global Climate Strike on Friday, Greta addressed politicians who are more concerned with economic growth than protecting the environment for future generations that will have to deal with their inaction.
When it was time for her to speak, Greta, who is from Sweden and has been encouraging kids to strike and stand up for their future, said:
“This is all wrong. I shouldn’t be up here. I should be back in school, on the other side of the ocean, yet you all come to us young people for hope. How dare you. You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words, and yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing.”
Then she called attention to how the planet is “in the beginning of a mass extinction and all you [politicians and business owners] can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth.”

Greta also said that she refuses to believe that these politicians are evil but questions how they say they understand how urgent the climate crisis is and don’t address the issues. After tearing apart politicians’ tendencies to go ahead with “business as usual” and schooling them on the “total carbon budget” report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Greta added, “You are failing us, but young people are starting to understand your betrayal. The eyes of all future generations are upon you. And if you choose to fail us, I say: We will never forgive you.”
Donald Trump, who The Guardian described as “a climate change denier who has undone every major US regulation aimed at combating climate change,” wasn’t expected to attend Greta’s speech, but made a “brief appearance” during the summit. When Greta saw him, she gave him this look:
