WOW takes the COSMO team for a spin in the new VW T-CROSS

new VW T-CROSS

First impressions last, and with an eye-catching exterior and plenty of flair the new VW T-Cross is gonna have everyone catching feelings. It has everything you need in a car – it’s practical and fun and has enough technological features to make a smartphone jealous (and everyone who is sitting in traffic around you).

Watch Women on Wheels (WOW) take the COSMO team on a test drive.

Connected Lifestyle

The need to be connected is real, and nothing strikes fear into our hearts more than not being able to get a signal. We are connected to the world through our phones – from answering calls any time of the day to responding to voice notes wherever we are. Thankfully, connectivity in the new VW T-Cross is not a problem. Connection options for your phone are available either via Bluetooth or a USB cable, allowing access to Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

Using either of these two apps transforms the central infotainment touchscreen into a pseudo smartphone, accessing your calls, music, WhatsApp audio messages and Google Maps features. You’ve got to love Spotify – it’s the best thing since high-speed Internet; a good sound system is even better. Add in the Beats system at purchase to upgrade the sound to a 300-watt, eight-channel amplifier and separate subwoofer, perfect for blasting any Lizzo song

Keyless Entry

You know that feeling – you’ve been to every single shop in the mall and you’re exhausted. As you’re heading back to your car, you realise your key is somewhere in your handbag, and you’re holding heavy shopping bags so you can’t reach it. Now you have to drop them and dig for the key in your handbag (it’s a hot mess).

With optional keyless entry, the new VW T-Cross can ‘sense’ the key on you, and the door will be unlocked the moment you pull the handle to open it – no need to unload your precious cargo. The push-to-start ignition button means no physical key is required to start the T-Cross. We think this optional extra is an underrated safety feature. After a night out, you can simply hop into your T-Cross and drive away, no time wasted in parking lots trying to find your key.

There’s just so much space

Storage space is plentiful in the T-Cross – from shopping bags to everything needed for a weekend away, it takes it all in its stride with 377 to 455 litres of luggage space. That’s enough space for two medium-sized wheelie bags, a cooler box and more. If you need a bit of extra space for luggage, the rear seat can slide forward by 14cm. Need even more space because you really want that unicorn coffee table for your lounge? Simply fold the rear seats down and you have all the space on offer.

Safety

The T-Cross is super-safe too. Scoring a five-star rating in the EuroNCAP test (97% for adult occupancy and 86% for child safety) is not something small SUVs can claim. It has six airbags, ABS with electronic brake-force distribution and traction control as the main active safety features. The T-Cross has your back.

Freedom of Expression

The design features of the T-Cross are well suited to those who enjoy the freedom of expression, and who are unafraid to try unique fashion trends. The Comfortline trim, which starts at R334 600, has 16-inch alloy wheels, a multifunctional steering wheel, Park Distance Control (front and rear), cruise control, front-centre armrest and several optional extra features on offer. Included in the price is a three-year/120 000km warranty and three-year/45 000km service plan. Wait for the New Year and you can get the entry-level T-Cross for less than R300 000!
