4 Reasons We're Obsessed With the Totally Slick and Budget-Friendly Mahindra XUV300

Did someone say ‘roadtrip’? 🚗🌴

If the name ‘XUV300’ doesn’t jump out at you, it’s probably because you haven’t yet seen one. If it does, our guess is that you’ve been struck by its bold and dynamic good looks, or you’ve heard about its bang for buck price offering that includes an impressive list of super snazzy features as standard. Either way, the new Mahindra XUV300 is here, and it’s been stirring the pot in the households of those in the market for a new compact SUV since it hit our roads in May this year (2019).

On Saturday 31 August our readers will take to the Mother City where they’ll be experiencing the all-new Mahindra XUV300 SUV for themselves! If you missed your chance at getting in on the action, fear not – because we have more exciting Drive Days to come – so keep an eye on COSMO and WOW for more details.

In the meantime, however, here is what we love most about the Mahindra XUV300 – and you will too

1. Trendy, City-Styling

When it comes to design the XUV300 is a game-changer for the Mahindra brand, and with South Africa’s saturated compact SUV market being filled with all sorts of stylish options, Mahindra has made sure that its newcomer is ready for the challenge! Upfront, we love its chrome detailing and sleek-looking grille which gives it a sense of sophistication and class. The rear oozes with character and charm thanks to its distinct tail lights and sultry-sculpted tailgate. There are three different exterior colours to choose from Dynamic Red, Pearl White and DSat Silver.

2. Punchy, Urban-Driving

The XUV300 is feisty on the road thanks to punchy and rewarding driving dynamics offered by your choice of a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol or 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine. In the city, you’ll instantly notice the XUV300’s level of quirk and responsiveness – especially when it comes to unpredictable taxis that stop in the middle of nowhere, requiring you to quickly maneuver your way around and back out onto the road. Overtaking slow-moving vehicles on the highway is a breeze and takes minimal planning too and there’s so much satisfaction that comes from this slick-shifting six-speed manual gearbox.

3. It’s Totally Affordable

Everyone is talking about XUV300’s price point! At a starting price of R249 999 for the entry-level W6 1.2 petrol variant, you could own a brand new compact SUV! But without sounding like too much of an advert, our resident motoring experts have spent some comprehensive one-on-one time with the XUV300 themselves and they’re pretty impressed by what it has to offer in terms of value. “Previously, Mahindra might not have been the first brand of choice for many family car buyers in South Africa – I guess they just haven’t stood out in such a competitive market yet – until now, that is. Now, hardly a week has gone by without a friend or family member asking whether I’ve test-driven Mahindra’s new SUV. And the next thing they comment on is its affordable price tag. I think this is a real game-changer for the Mahindra brand. ” says WOW’s digital editor, Caira-lee Durand.

4. Impressive, W8-Safety

On the range-topping W8 specification in particular, the XUV300 is jam-packed with safety features to offer driver and passenger peace of mind, whether you’re travelling in the city or heading out for that well-deserved break to your favourite holiday destination. The W8 specification level includes 7 airbags, while also adding ABS brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, cornering braking control and discs on all four wheels. It also gets warning lights on the front doors, hill-hold assistance, an anti-theft alarm system and seat belt reminders on all seats.

If you’d like to hear what our readers think of the stylish new Mahindra XUV300, we’ll be giving you the full scoop once they’ve enjoyed their action-packed day with it in the Mother City. They’ll also be sampling some of the other Mahindra SUVs in the range, such as the bold seven-seater XUV500, as well as the cheeky KUV100. So remember to keep an eye on WOW and COSMO’s online platforms for more details from the 31 August!
