A Cape Town restaurant just cleaned up at the annual Haute Grandeur Global Restaurant Awards. The awards honour hospitality experiences across more than 60 countries, and this year Durbanville Hills restaurant, Tangram, claimed three of the prestigious awards.
This weekend the world’s top hospitality providers gathered for the Haute Grandeur Global Restaurant Awards in Kuala Lampur. These awards are regarded as the ‘pinnacle of achievement for restaurants globally’. Instead of just a few judges or professional food critics, their rating process relies on the feedback of the people whose opinions really matter; guests.
Some of South Africa’s most well-known restaurants were in the running for awards, including La Colombe, Test Kitchen, the Pot Luck Club, Hartford Koi and Myoga. Durbanville Hills’s Tangram restaurant was awarded three awards: Best South African Cuisine on a Global Level, Best Restaurant Manager in South Africa and Best Gourmet Cuisine in Africa.

Dirk Steyn, who manages the spot and now holds the award for Best Restaurant Manager in South Africa, was ecstatic to be honoured. ‘The hospitality industry is competitive and consumers demand consistent quality, exceptional service and unique experiences that entice them to return. Tangram is famed for its beautiful views of Table Mountain and Table Bay. Their menu is unpretentious and surprisingly affordable for the gourmet experience you get. This restaurant holds a number of other awards too: 2019 Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor, twice best Restaurant in the Winelands (Restaurant Week 2015 & 2016), Best Restaurant in South Africa (Restaurant Week 2017), and Top Restaurant on TripAdvisor 2018.
Tangram is not only ideal for boozy lunches and wine-tasting; they also do an amazing breakfast and are open for dinner too.
