50 Top Pizza, aka the Academy Awards of the pizza world, have announced their 2019 list of the best pizzerias in the world, and a small restaurant in Hout Bay, Massimo’s, has been named the tastiest in Africa. This is the first time an African restaurant has been featured so it’s a pretty huge deal for this laid-back and affordable pizza spot to be named the best pizza in Africa.
The 50 Top Pizza awards are based in Italy, so you know they mean business. Pizzerias around the world are anonymously judged for their quality, drinks, service and decor. The list features 150 pizzerias, and this year includes Massimo’s, a pizza restaurant in Hout Bay, Cape Town. The owner, Massimo Orione, is actually from Italy, hence the authentic taste to his pizzas.
And while you’d expect a restaurant on the 50 Top Pizza list to be fancy AF, Massimo’s is laid-back and unpretentious. They have amazing vegan options that are both affordable and taste good; a rare combo. They also have a list of ‘Charity Dishes’, meaning they donate to a charity every time you order one. Also, you have the option to buy a ‘virtual pizza slice’ when you get the bill, and they’ll deliver a pizza to someone in need. Basically, Massimo’s is doing the most, all while serving amazing wood-fired pizza.
So if you’re in the mood for literally the best pizza on the continent, you know where to go.
