One Cheap Bottle of Booze, 5 Ways to Drink It

Cheers! 🍷

On a budget but still want to enjoy a drink (or five)? We feel you, girl! That’s why we’ve rounded up five equally delish ways to drink this one bottle of of red wine (R39,99, Woolworths).

1 Katemba

This is basically a fancy way of saying ‘wine and coke’. And while fancy AF people will roll their eyes because: wine and coke- it tastes delish and is super refreshing. Also wine. And coke.

How to:

  • That cheap bottle of wine
  • Bottle of Coke
  • Ice to serve

Mix wine and Coke at a 50/50 ratio; serve with ice. Add lime if you’re feeling extra.

2 Sangria

Drink this, dream of being in Spain with some kind of exotic man. This one works well as a punch = great way to stretch out your booze when you’re entertaining on a budget.

How to:

  • That wine again tho
  • 1/2 cup brandy
  • 1/2 orange, rind on, sliced into small pieces, large seeds removed
  • 1 apple, cut into small pieces, seeds removed
  • 3-4 Tbsp sugar
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) orange juice
  • Ice to chill

Add apples, oranges and sugar to a large pitcher and mix for 45 seconds. Add orange juice and brandy and mix again. Add red wine and stir to incorporate. Throw in some ice and stir to chill. Garnish with orange segments (optional). Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours.

3 Boozy Hot Chocolate

Because on a cool, rainy day this kinda beverage is both warm and alcoholic. Which is basically the best of both worlds. Also, it’s super rich so a little will go a long way.

How to:

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1/3 cup dark chocolate chunks

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine milk and chocolate. Whisk constantly until chocolate is melted into milk and you have a thick and creamy chocolate milk. Pour in red wine and heat until everything is hot.

4 Red Wine Spritzer

This one’s a perfect poolside tipple. And it’s honestly so you easy you can make it while drunk. Promise.

How to:

  • Your trusty bottle of wine
  • 1 quart sparkling water or seltzer, chilled
  • Handful of strawberries (if you’re feeling flush)

Fill the bottom of a large wine glass with strawberries (if using). Pour wine in to cover and let stand 10 minutes. Top glasses with sparkling when you’re ready to serve.

5 Vino Lemonade

When life gives you lemonade… add red wine!

How to:

  • Your red wine (again)
  • 1 can lemonade or Sprite
  • 1 orange (sliced)
  • 1 lemon (sliced)
