Instagram recently announced it’s decision to filter out inauthentic likes and third-party services which help beef up followers. This is a measure taken by app creators to uphold the ‘authentic and vibrant experience’ people look forward to when launching the app.
New Instagram Rules May Make It Harder To Be An Overnight Influencer
The job of being an influencer is possibly the most desired gig on the interwebs. Many people often think a gig with glamour needs the right amount of likes and followers to get brands swooning over their influence. So when those offers from third-party services who offer to boost your following for a small fee pop up in your DM’s is almost irresistible to take the offer. It might be time to think again, not only is the exponential growth in followers and likes very obvious to your ‘real’ database – but now Instagram is here to crack down on the inauthentic reach. Brands are also up- to speed with the latest tricks to boost the Instagram following and often driven by other indicators such as engagement and impressions.
How will Instagram track inauthentic activity?
Well, it’s pretty simple. Instagram has developed some advanced machine learning that will alert the team to suspected third-party activity. According to Instagram’s press release, ‘Accounts we identify using these services will receive an in-app message alerting them that we have removed the inauthentic likes, follows and comments given by their account to others. We will also ask them to secure their account by changing their password.’
In accordance with the terms and conditions of Instagram, third party service providers are not allowed so you don’t want to find yourself on the wrong side of Instagram law.
Do not lose hope you can still achieve your influencer dream
Remember, if you want to be an influencer it takes a lot of work and consistency. Many of our favourite influencers spend a great deal of time creating content that fans can rely on. You have to build the trust of your community and later for brands. If you want to start your career in the influencer game – it might help to contact brands yourself and create pitches which will show your enthusiasm and strategy and who knows they may give you a shot. Brands often are looking for authentic ways to enter various demographics so be yourself and it may pay off faster than you think. Numbers are great but not essential in making an impact for a brand.
