Nicole Bessick has been a staple on our television screens for the last couple of years on series such as Broken Vows and Binnelanders.
In Binnelanders, Nicole Bessick plays Xenia Samuels. As Nicole describes, ‘She’s a fierce, feisty, passionate woman who says what she means and means what she says. As a teenager, she became addicted to drugs and blames her father for all her woes. She now works in a strip club… a world far removed from the conventional Christian home she was raised in.’
What do you enjoy about pole-dancing?
I consider myself to be quite ‘methodical’ in my acting technique, so in order to play her authentically and get a better understanding of who she is, I went to a few pole classes. I’m quite athletic, so physical activity comes quite easily to me… but pole dancing is on a whole other level! I have never experienced exercise that challenged my body the way pole did.
Pole-dancing has become a popular form of exercise, will you continue to add this to your workout routine in the future?
Absolutely! Not only is it a killer workout, but it does wonders for one’s self-confidence.
Describe a pole-dancing workout?
Essentially pole-fit requires you to lift and hold your own body weight while making it look super easy. It’s not at all as easy as it looks! Upper body strength is key.
What pole-dancing exercises does one learn as a beginner?
The first few lessons start out with learning how to hold your body weight, how to climb and a few basic spins. Once you know the basics, you can have fun with it!
What is your go-to pre-pole dancing snack?
A protein bar or shake! Nothing too heavy.
How often did you train for this role?
I trained at the gym every day, but only did pole once per week.
What word of advice would you give to someone wanting to take up pole-dancing?
Stick it out! The first few weeks can be quite tricky!
Where can one find you pole-dancing/practicing?
I went to a few pole classes with iPole. Ask for Aviva!
You can watch Nicole on Binnelanders on weeknights on kykNET at 19h30.
