Any time from 3pm on Sunday can be summed up with just one word: meh. But hold on – there’s still some weekend left. Don’t let the Sunday blues sabotage it.
1. Start right. One thing we love about exercise is that those endorphins fool us into thinking we’re in a great mood, even when we’re not. Take advantage by planning a Sunday afternoon workout, whether it’s a jog or a yoga sesh. Invite your friends to make it more social and even more fun.

2. Know what’s ahead. If you’re a habitual victim of the Sunday blues, anticipate what’s coming. Know that by the time afternoon rolls around you’re likely to be feeling crabby, and start making plans to prevent it: organise sundowner cocktails, check out a movie or plan a games evening. Make sure that whatever you do is engaging enough to distract you and take your mind off things.
3. Do what you can to make the week ahead less painful. Note: this does not mean giving up what’s left of your precious weekend by starting tomorrow’s assignment early. But think about the low-key admin you can get done now to save yourself some angst tomorrow.
4. Remember that you’re not alone. It’s pretty much a universally accepted fact that Sundays suck – researchers in Germany and Sweden have officially proved that Sunday evenings are the most unhappy time for most people. So when those miz feelings attack, recognise them for what they are: just a blip on your happiness radar.

5. Plan a ritual. And make it something you look forward to. Maybe, if the whole weekend’s been a whirl of coffee dates and parties, Sunday night’s the perfect time to catch up with what’s happening on Pinterest. Or maybe you can plan a standing date for nachos and ice cream with your BFF.
6. Set a really exciting goal for the week. Maybe this will be the week you manage to clock up 10kms on your run, or you sign up for that creative writing course.
7. Stop seeing work as a punishment. Look, a job’s not always fun, but remember what got you passionate about your profession in the first place, and you might even look forward to doing it.
