Ramon Doringo, dance class director, suggests taking a ballet class once or twice a week. ‘The positions in ballet can help with toning and strength,’ he explains. ‘Bar exercises, such as the "port de bras", can lengthen your arms and stretch the muscles, which helps blood to circulate.’ But if the thought of taking a ballet class has you sweating bullets, don’t fret. Many gyms offer beginners’ classical ballet classes. Do a Google search of your area, or call your nearest gym and ask. Tutus really not your thing? A Bollywood class will also do the trick, according to Lisa Baker, dance company director. ‘Bollywood has specific arm and finger positions, so you work out your upper body just as much as your lover abdominals,’ she says. Baker recommends two to three classes a week. Within three weeks, you should start to see the results. |
