A Brazilian model agency is standing up to the unrealistic ideals of the fashion industry with a powerful anti-anorexia ad campaign.
‘You are not a sketch’ is a campaign by Star Models that consists of a series of evocative photographs of models Photoshopped to show what real women would look like if fashion design sketches were representative of a real-life female body. Even though the images are exaggerated and Photoshopped, they are a shocking reminder of our society’s unrealistic standards of beauty.
While some people are loving the campaign, other commentators suggest that the ads are merely a form of thinspiration for women who are already anorexic or weight-obsessed. ‘It is a good campaign for young girls who have not yet succumbed to the Thin Culture of our country, to perhaps nip the tendency in the bud. But for those who are already truly anorexic, these models are their GOAL,’ one commentator noted.
