When it comes to ridiculous beauty expectations for women, these are my personal favourites.
1. The Thigh Gap
See, this makes absolutely no logical sense. In what universe is, quote, a ‘box-shaped gap’ between your legs something you should aspire to? Curves, people! It’s a thing, and it’s not something we should be fighting.

2. Smooth Legs
Are my legs made of plastic and PhotoShop? Nope. Cellulite isn’t even a side effect of being overweight – almost everyone has it. This stupid standard needs to die because it isn’t actually attainable. If you have it, you have it. And so what?
3. Protruding Hip Bones
What even is this obsession? I don’t have jutting-out hipbones for the simple fact that my body is covered in skin. Forgive me that my insides aren’t on the outside, society. I’ll try to do better.

4. Flat Stomach
We’re women. We’re soft and cuddly, and that’s why guys love us so much. Not having the abs of a 17-year-old male swimming captain is both normal and expected.
5. A Bigger Butt
We can thank 2014 for this one. How can a body part be a trend? Suddenly we’re being flooded with exercise tips to expand your behind when, just a few months ago, the ‘goal’ was to make it as tiny as possible. What happens when tiny butts are ‘in’ again? I can’t keep up!
6. Thick Eyebrows
Yet another trend. In the ‘90s, brows were being plucked within an inch of their life. While I’m glad that’s over, the new standard is even harder to attain. I can only colour them in with so much permanent marker before it starts to look weird.
Guys all over are suddenly declaring their desire for a girl who wears no makeup, but none of them actually know what a truly makeup-free face looks like. Suddenly tips for no-makeup-makeup looks are cropping up everywhere, which are even more complicated than just slapping on some concealer and mascara and calling it a day. Nope.
Can we all just get over it and make peace with the fact that a woman’s body is stunningly beautiful exactly as it is? Thanks.
