It’s easy to forget that celebrities have to deal with the same boring day-to-day stuff as us, and this includes birth control. Most famous women are careful with what they reveal to the public, but these celebs weren’t shy to open up about contraceptives and which methods they use:
1 Lena Dunham
As you know birth control can be prescribed for a whole lot of things that don’t involve pregnancy, including acne and endometriosis. Lena Dunham suffers from severe endometriosis and being on the Pill has changed her life for the better: ‘I’ve been on the birth-control pill on and off for almost fifteen years. It’s the only thing that can control my endometriosis pain, and it’s made my skin clearer, my moods more even, and my life altogether finer,’ she said in a Lenny Letter.
‘I know that without the pill, I would not have been able to be a productive and functioning member of society’
Lena has never shied away from being really open about taboo subjects. She went on to be candid about her hormones and emotions and how birth control has helped them. ‘I know that without the pill, I would not have been able to be a productive and functioning member of society, and that’s not an exaggeration. I am genuinely nervous for the day I go off it in an attempt to get pregnant because it’s such a big part of regulating my body, and the routine makes me feel really safe.’
2 Jessica Simpson
When Jessica Simpson appeared on Ellen Degeneres’ show last year, the first thing they mentioned was the fact that she wasn’t pregnant on the Ellen show for once. Jessica shared that after giving birth twice she had an IUD put in so that ‘nothing’s going to get in that uterus’.
3 Kelly Clarkson
After 2 pregnancies Kelly Clarkson decided she never wanted to be pregnant again. Her time being pregnant was ‘literally the worst moments of my life’. So she underwent the most extreme form of birth control: getting her tubes tied. Kelly even got her husband to get a vasectomy, just in case.
‘Kim Kardashian revealed to Oprah that she had gone on birth control when she was just 15’
4 Jennifer Garner
Something about Ellen Degeneres clearly makes women feel comfortable to open up about birth control. When Jennifer Garner sat on Ellen’s couch she referenced the ’57 different kinds of contraceptives’ she and Ben Affleck use. She quipped that three of the ‘contraceptives’ were their children. Because nothing reminds you to take your birth control quite like being around screaming young children.
5 Kim Kardashian
Kris Jenner got a lot of flack after Kim Kardashian revealed to Oprah that she had gone on birth control when she was just 15. But teenagers are going to be sexually active no matter how much their parents warn them against it. At least Kris was being responsible and mature with her daughter.
6 Jessica Biel
Condoms are great contraceptives, but they’re also really funny. Like little sexy balloons, except they would be inappropriate to blow up as party decor. Jessica Biel made a really hilarious video for Funny or Die where she lamented the ‘baggy condom’ look- when a dude buys the wrong size and the stress you have of it falling off and getting lost inside you. Relatable.
