Did someone say ‘all-day breakfast’?

In the mood to eat out but wanna try somewhere new? There are a few amazing restaurants that have opened up recently in Jo’burg, from the pink interiors of Shucked, the oyster bar, to a new location for an old favourite pizza spot. Here is our selection of the best new restaurants in Johannesburg:

This spot is nestled behind the Puma concept store in Braamfontein and is named after Rudi Dassler, the founder of Puma. The decor at Dassler’s is bright and simple, and the wall features a display of plain white puma cats, waiting to be customised by local artists. Not only is the cafe-style food here tasty, but it’s also cheap AF. Their specialty is their all-day breakfast menu, where everything costs less than R40.

Oyster-lovers no longer need to trek to Knysna once a year to get the good stuff: Shucked has opened up in Craighall Park. Shucked doesn’t just offer a boring lemon with your oysters, they have about 20 different dressing options ranging from a simple white wine vinegar to a more exotic apple and cucumber granita topping. There’s an outdoor area that’s perfect for summer evenings, and inside is their already-iconic-on-Instagram suede pink seating feat. tons of Delicious Monster plants. And if you’re someone who still thinks oysters are low-key gross their menu includes other delicious options, like sticky wings, homemade seasonal pies and kingklip fish and chips.

Brik is all about providing you with fresh and nutritious meals *and* saving the planet. Their menu is ever-changing as they only use seasonal produce, that means no shipped-in-from-Australia fruits to be found here. Brik practices zero-waste cooking by using less popular cuts of meat (without compromising on flavours), sources their ingredients locally, and uses no single-use plastic (and if they do it goes towards making Ecobricks). Also, their broth is to die for.

Urban Moyo

Dining at Urban Moyo is like going to the fanciest braai ever. They specialise in African food cooked over an open flame, think gourmet braaibroodjes, flame-cooked tiger prawns, and potjie served in Le Creuset. Their must-try options are the Moroccan spiced lamb rump, oxtail potjie, and their gin and tonic cheesecake, served on a dark chocolate biscuit base.

Coalition Pizza

Coalition Pizza has *been* serving some of the best, authentic, Neapolitan-style oven-cooked pizza in Jo’burg for a while now, but they just opened a new branch in Sandton and we think that’s worth celebrating. Their pizza is famed for its puffy crusts, tomato base that consists simply of crushed tomatoes, and their generous chunks of mozzarella. Coalition’s toppings are all high-quality and it’s hard to order a wrong pizza, but their classic Margherita is perfect just as it is.
