Jemma first got into modelling because of an article about Mark Fast using fuller figured models on the runway which caused a sensational media controversy.
She doesn’t bow to the pressures of modelling by dieting and doesnt believe in shaping her body to fit an image portrayed as perfect by the media. She’s passionate about cooking, kite surfing, violin, her friends and being an inspiration to other women by loving the body that she has been born with.
She started modelling late in 2009 and hasn’t looked back since. She was one of the first ‘curvy’ girls to model for American Apparel in LA, USA. Doing shoots in Malibu on Stand Up Paddle boards, downtown LA warehouses and shoots with the Hollywood Hills as the backdrop.
In London, she worked for plus size fashion designers like Anna Scholz and Zandra Rhodes. She even met the South African photographer (through rockstar Adam Ant) who discovered Twiggy – Barry Lategan and subsequently did a few shoots with him too. Then she moved back to SA and has worked for Kelloggs Special K, COSMO, GHD, New Look (UK), NKD (Holland) and was part of the COSMO Summer shoot in Malaysia.
Jemma embraces her flaws. ‘I have a huge mole on my chin, often have a few dreadlocks from being in the sea so much, I have extremely skew pinkies on both hands, big hips and I am a giant amazon woman to some and as Im 6 foot 2. Love it or leave it.’
