In light of Women’s Day, actress and current COSMO cover star, Nomzamo Mbatha gave three women the chance to spend the day with her – and she shared the experience exclusively with us!
Nomzamo chose the three women – Chumani Mtshixa from Cape Town, Thembakazi Silevana from Johannesburg and Yonela Mabi from PE – based on their personal stories of perseverance, which she shared on social media as part of Puma South Africa’s Do You campaign.
The three women were flown to Johannesburg to experience a day in the life of one of the most popular celebs in SA! They were treated to a shopping spree at Puma, spent time on the Puma South Africa Do You campaign and enjoyed a supper with Nomzamo at Athol Place Hotel and two-night stay at the Maslow Hotel. They also feature in Nomzamo’s #DoYou Anthem video.

Three Women Got the Chance to Spend a Day with Nomzamo Mbatha
What was it about these three women that stood out for you most, when it came to deciding who would join you?
I was inspired by the fearlessness and deep authenticity in relaying their stories. One of the most common threads as human beings is our ability to overcome and the women I chose carried that trait incredibly well.
How did their ‘Do You’ stories resonate with you on a personal level?
Each of their stories were different and deeply personal. The level of vulnerability coupled with immense strength made me know for sure that I had to meet them and be further inspired by their stories.
What did it mean to you to spend the day with these three South African women from different walks of life?
It was one of the most memorable days of my life. Perhaps the full circle was made even more profound because shoot day was on Youth Day, and so had a much deeper sense of meaning. Watching the girls grow in their comfort as the day progressed and begin to let their light shine even more was so lovely to witness. We ended the evening off with dinner and hearts began to open as we spoke about some issues they were struggling with on a personal level and a sisterhood was formed.
How have you been inspired this Women’s Day?
There is a legion of women all around us who are running with the baton and truly being shape-shifters in making sure that women and girls are included. We are bold and rooted in our mission to being at the forefront and kicking down previously closed doors.
How do you plan to further spread your Passion Project and Do You story?
By being more committed and making sure I build a strong team of dedicated people. I plan on having even more sessions of mentoring and speaking to some industry peers to join so that the schools of thought are widened.
Do you plan to stay in touch with these three women?
We definitely do stay in touch. We chat on Instagram DM and e-mail, and I always check up on them on social media.
