The local tv shows and films we’re loving RN
Catching feelings tells the story of how a formerly-famous writer and his wife’s lives are changed after a self-indulgent author comes to stay with them.
The film is directed, written by and stars Kagiso Lediga who acts alongside former cover star, and just incredible all-round beaut, Pearl Thusi aka Mama Pantha!
Watch it on Netflix RN!
The film centres around ‘ulwaluko’ (the rite of passage of Xhosa men) and a young factory worker Kwanda, played by Nakhane Touré, grappling with his sexuality.
Despite a lot of controversy, and a short ban from cinemas around the country, Inxeba has been met with worldwide acclaim and 20 international awards!
Catch the film on Netflix!
Housekeepers gives us an inside look into what goes down in the daily lives of the wealthy, through the eyes of those who work for them (and are often overlooked).
Featuring some of our faves, including Thando Thabethe, it’s a must-watch!
Catch Housekeepers on Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161) at 8pm every Monday.
The Real Housewives of Johannesburg
Following in the footsteps of The Real Housewives of Orange County, New Jersey, Atlanta, Miami, Dallas, etc. (jeesh, how many are there), comes The Real Housewives of Johannesburg.
The show zooms in on the fabulous lives of six Johannesburg women and, of course, the drama that comes with it.
Watch The Real Housewives of Johannesburg on 1Magic (DStv channel 103) at 7PM every Friday.
Okay, so this isn’t technically local but the show is produced by Benoni-born Charlize Theron – so that counts for something, right?
The show follows the life of Sophia Amoruso – the founder of Nasty Gal and author of Girlboss.
Check it out on Netflix RN!
