TMZ is reporting that the rapper was found dead in his apartment Friday morning in Los Angeles

As of 4:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon, TMZ is reporting that the rapper Mac Miller has died. He was 26. According to the site’s ‘law enforcement sources,’ Miller was found dead at his home in California around noon PST. Variety has also confirmed the news of his passing.

A cause of death has yet to be officially confirmed, though TMZ is reporting that Miller—whose struggles with substance abuse have long been documented in the media, as well as his own music—had overdosed.

Miller (or Malcolm McCormick, his birth name) was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in January 1992. He self-taught himself multiple instruments as a child, and was first signed to a record label in the city in 2010; his first official single, Knock Knock, premiered on YouTube in December of that year:

By 2014, though he had signed with Warner Bros. music, with The FADER reporting his deal with the label came in at $10 million. He has released numerous mixtapes and five studio albums—the fifth, Swimming, debuted in August.

Miller also had a reality TV show on MTV called Mac Miller And The Most Dope Family, which followed him and his chosen family for two seasons and during a worldwide tour.

In May 2018, Miller was arrested for driving under the influence after he drove his car into a utility pole.

A day before his death, Miller had tweeted about his excitement for the album tour, which was scheduled to begin in October.
