As women, we like to be prepared. We often think about leaving 15 minutes earlier in case there is traffic. We might even pack two bags for a trip, just in case it’s rainy and cold, and we research things before we do them. Truth is, we just like to be prepared for any possible situation. Together with 1st for Women, we’ve put together the ultimate #JustInCase beauty-hack list, so you’re always ready. Just in case.
1. How to remove nail polish when you’ve run out of nail-polish remover
Have a meeting with your boss at 9am and you notice that your gorgeous Bordeaux nails now resemble Avril Lavigne circa 2001? Even worse, you’ve run out of nail polish! #BeautySOS. Don’t worry, fam. We’ve got you! Remove your nail polish by first soaking your nails in warm water, then soaking cotton balls in a mixture of equal parts lemon juice and vinegar, and placing them on your nails for 20 to 30 seconds. Later, SK8R girl.
2. How to revive dry mascara
There’s not much worse than a dried-out tube of your favourite mascara – especially if it says #boybye long before its expiration date. However, it is important to get rid of mascara that is older than three months for hygiene reasons. Otherwise, you might expose your eyes to bacteria and possible eye infections – mmm, no thanks. Revive your clumpy mascara by pouring about 10 drops of eye re-wetting liquid/saline solution into the opening of the tube. Close, shake well and say hello to sky-high lashes!
3. How to remove your makeup when you’ve run out of makeup remover
Turns out, coconut oil isn’t just an excellent de-frizzer and body moisturiser – it’s also a really good makeup remover (is coconut oil the answer to life itself? #AskingForAFriend). Scoop a handful out of the jar, warm it up in your hands, rub it over your face and wipe away with a cotton pad. Not only does it remove your makeup, but you don’t have to worry about moisturising afterwards. ~BONUS~.
4. How to make a home-made shaving gel
Don’t you hate it when you’re in the shower, ready to shave and get on with your day, and you find you’re out of shaving cream? This easy, two-ingredient DIY solution will make for a smooth, silky shave. Combine one part olive oil with three parts pure aloe-vera gel and you’re good to go. It’s also great for those who suffer from dry or sensitive skin. #SkinGoals here we come.
5. How to make your nail polish dry quickly
We’ve all been there: You paint. You blow. You wait. You reach for your phone and, meeeeh, you went in too soon. Please stop! Dry your nail polish in a flash by dunking your fingers into a bowl of cold H2O for two to three minutes. When you remove them, you’ll notice beads of water on top of the polish, meaning it’s dried up and all done. Now, go and treat yourself to a coffee with those 15 extra minutes we just saved you. #Blessed.
