Getting to Know Rising Star Kamo Modisakeng
When did you realise you wanted to become an actress? What was your biggest influence?
I first realised that I wanted to be an actress in high school but I’d always been fascinated with the idea of playing pretend and being absolutely anyone I wanted to be while growing up.
You’ve been fortunate enough to work with some incredible people, including the Fergusons. What two things you’ve learnt from your peers?
Working with some of the industry’s most renowned names has been such a humbling learning experience for me. The two most important things that I’ve learnt from those experiences, include:
1 You MUST be willing to take criticism with an open mind and absorb everything like a sponge.
2 To give your best performance you must be comfortable enough with yourself and literally throw all care and fear of judgement to the side.
What advice do you have for young women wanting to enter the industry?
You need to do it for passion – not the fame, not the money but for pure passion, otherwise you won’t be completely happy with what you do.
Which actress do you admire and why?
Connie Ferguson. She has managed to keep her name relevant over a number of years, in such a fast-paced and ever-changing industry which is rare. These days, you’re hot news today and by next week nobody even remembers who you are.
Name one way in which you’ve grown from your first appearance in Ayeye to where you are now?
When i started on Ayeye, I was young and naive. I had not wrapped my head around the actual hard wok that goes into industry. Now, I am more patient and eager than ever to learn everything that goes on behind the scenes too.
What two things have helped you build relationships and your career so far?
The two things that have helped me build relationships in the industry and in my career are my humbleness (I am a very quiet and reserved person) as well as my relatability – I am literally the girl next door.
Are there any similarities you share with the character you play on Blended? What are they?
Kemontle is a very ditzy self-absorbed teenager who can’t do anything for herself. Lol. I loved playing her and I think the only thing we may have in common is her love to always look good.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Personally I still think I’m still establishing my name in the industry, so in 5 years I see myself and brand Kamo Modisakeng locally recognised as more than just an actress but a media personality as a whole. I want to try my hand at a few other things in the industry besides acting but that will always be my first love.
