Zozibini Tunzi arrives in South Africa

Our queen, Zozibini Tunzi arrived in South Africa yesterday for the first time since she was crowned Miss Universe in December 2019. And naturally, the country was excited AF to see her again. Can we blame the peeps?

She arrived on Saturday morning at O.R. Tambo airport yesterday, to a crowd full of people ready to welcome her back to her home country.

Makhotso Sotyu, the Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture, made a speech at the airport where she said, ‘We are all Miss Universe. Thank you for giving us something to brag about. Thank you for making us proud of ourselves. Thank you for making that you girl out there actually believe in herself and know that it can be done.’

In a speech that Zozi made, she said, ‘I have been feeling the love of South Africans,  even before going to Miss Universe…Because of that, while I was walking on the Miss Universe stage, I knew that I was there as one body, but as I stood on that stage, I stood as millions of South Africans.’

‘Every time people ask me, “Did you know that you would be Miss Universe?”, my answer is, “I didn’t know that I would be Miss Universe because I didn’t know it was possible for someone like me.” But now I confidently know, when you ask a young girl that looks like me, do they know that they can become Miss Universe, I know that they can say that they can.’

Of course, she met with other celebs including former Miss South Africa Basetsana Kumalo:

And then, on Saturday afternoon, she went through the streets of Mthatha on a specially made float, that looked amazing! The float was sponsored by BrandSA and built by Henderson Worx:

Today, Zozi will be at the Mthatha Stadium from 11 am for hometown main event, where will unveil a mural that was created in her honour and will attend a lunch where she will be entertained with traditional dancing.

Tomorrow, she will visit her former primary school, Canaan Academy with her mother. She will meet with grade one and two students from the school.
