Even though Zodwa Wabantu has been known for speaking her mind, regardless of how controversial, but this time she might have gone too far when she made inappropriate comments which were read as homophobic.
In a previous episode of Zodwa Wabantu: Uncensored on DStv’s Moja Love, she said, ‘Gays are silly because they are fighting with women. Name one gay who has never fought with a woman in the industry. Their problem is that gays are convinced that they have vaginas, while they have penises. We accommodate you guys because you wear make-up and when we, as women, talk about men you’re always there contributing to the conversation.’
Her comments upset many people and had viewers trending the hashtag #ZodwaCancelled, she was stripped of her 2017 Feather Award for Drama Queen of the Year, Johannesburg Pride, the LGBTQ advocacy group made a statement declaring that Multichoice suspend her show with ‘immediate effect’. Celebrities such as Somizi Mhlongo and Mohale Motaung also spoke up against her negative comments.
Zodwa made the apology on Saturday evening on her show Zodwa Wabantu: Uncensored saying that she had no idea the impact that her words would have.
‘I walked around naked and I don’t want to be abused, and you also don’t deserve to be abused,’ she said.
