- The Morning Show just released its first full trailer, and it looks incredible.
- It stars Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Steve Carell, so obviously it’s going to be good.
Today’s not a regular Tuesday—it is a great Tuesday, because Apple just released the full trailer for The Morning Show, the first big series from the company’s forthcoming streaming service. The trailer is nearly three minutes of perfection and features many of my favorite things: Jennifer Aniston saying, “oh, honey;” Reese Witherspoon being feisty; the song “Goodbye Stranger” by Supertramp; somebody carrying around a cardboard cutout of Steve Carell; Billy Crudup wearing a tie; and men panicking because they got caught doing a no-no.
The show, which premieres this spring to whoever wants to fork over the mystery cash required for Apple’s TV+ subscription, seems to be about people screaming, and also (loosely) about the sexual harassment allegations against Matt Lauer that led to his departure from the Today Show.
Based on the trailer, Carell plays the Lauer-type and Aniston stars as his (rightfully pissed off) former co-host-slash-lover. Witherspoon, AKA Jill Green, AKA Aniston’s baby sister on Friends, appears to be in yet another role designed to antagonize
Rachel Green Aniston. Only this time she’s not here to date Ross out of spite, she’s cast as the fiery young(er) woman, hired to steal Aniston’s job.
Of course, the whole series is purely fiction, and a few details in the trailer—like the idea that Jennifer-freaking-Aniston will ever be too old for anything—serve as obvious signs to that effect. In any case, The Morning Show looks like an absolute delight, and I can’t wait to factor whatever Apple+ costs into my monthly budget. Or force someone I know to do it, so I can steal their login (hi, Mom!).
