Shailene Woodley and Jodie Foster in Cape Town

There has been an increase in international movies that are being filmed in South Africa. Another addition to the list is Prisoner 760 starring Jodie Foster, Shailene Woodley and many others, and they’re filming in Cape Town!

Prisoner 760 is based on the memoir, Guantanamo Diary by Mohamedou Ould Slahi, which was published in 2015. Slahi is a Mauritian who was detained at Guantanamo Bay detention camp from 2002 to 2016 without charge or trial. He is also one of the few prisoners that the US officials admit having tortured.

Slahi was released in October 2016 and he returned to Mauritania. His memoir was published in 2015 while he was still imprisoned. In November 2019, the film version was announced with Kevin McDonald (The Last King of Scotland) directing, and the cast including Benedict Cumberbatch, Tahar Rahim as Slahi, Jodie Foster as his lawyer Nancy Hollander, Shailene Woodley, and Zachary Levi (remember when we reported that he was in Cape Town).

Mohamedou Ould Slahi has been posting on his Twitter as he has enjoyed Cape Town while filming Prisoner 760. He posted pics of him at Knead in Kloof Street, and visiting Nelson Mandela’s cell on Robben Island.

There were also pictures of Slahi sitting with Jodie Foster, Shailene Woodley and the real Nancy Hollander at a local spot:

While in SA, Shailene also promoted the work that Ocean iMPAct is doing to protect the marine life in South Africa:
