Last night, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that there will be a nationwide lockdown in the country starting from 12 am Thursday. This is in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

And while the government has encouraged everyone to stay inside, South African celebrities have heeded that call and endorsed the president’s decision. Miss Universe, Zozibini Tunzi, tweeted after the president’s address, ‘ The ball is now in your court. Stay home. Please stay home!’ Many other celebs have also encouraged South Africans to stay home with Zodwa Wabantu doing the #StayAtHomeChallenge and DJ Shimza hosting an Online Quarantine Party.

Entertainer Boity encouraged everyone that they will prevail through the darkness and struggle that will happen:

Author Khaya Dlanga showed his support for the lockdown and President Ramaphosa’s plan by saying, ‘This is a comprehensive plan. I know there will be lots of questions but this is an impressive action by the government. I must applaud them. But now let’s play our part, South Africa.’

DJ Black Coffee also showed his support for the country by posting an image of two hands together with the South African flag with the caption, ‘We can do this.’

We appreciate all the support.
