Actress Pearl Thusi and model-turned-actress Nicola Breytenbach have landed themselves major roles in an upcoming international film called The Blue Mauritius.
According to the press release, the movie will be packed with intrigue and mystery. It follows the adventures of five international thieves hired by a person in Mauritius to steal the most valuable stamps in the world. Now we are officially excited!
The Blue Mauritius will be directed by British genius Charles Henri Belleville (Jet Trash, The Inheritance). The cast includes a wide array of international talent from Germany, South Africa, Egypt, France, Brasil and the US.
Nicola will be playing the role of Claudia, a beautiful antiquities curator and the love interest of the director of the museum in which the Blue Mauritius stamp is kept. Dexter Davis, the executive producer of The Blue Mauritius, is thrilled to have her on board. The producer only has oraise for our home-grown beauty. ‘We’re over-the-moon excited to have Nicola join our incredible cast of notable stars from around the globe. Nicola is one of those rare talents whose incredible beauty and humanity jumps right off the screen, and the audience connects instantly. We’re beyond confident that her acting career will be as successful as her incredible journey as one of South Africa’s top models.’
Pearl has the role of Makeda who, according to the press release, is ‘a sexy, gun-toting, motorcycle-riding femme fatale, who works for a German art dealer also out to steal the precious stamps.’ Personally, we think Pearl Thusi sounds absolutely perfect for the role.
We’re not the only ones who can’t wait to see her on screen: Davis also thinks it’s a match made in heaven. ‘We’re thrilled to have Pearl Thusi join our incredible cast. Pearl is in a league of her own and a force in the South African TV and film industry. The producers and I agreed that no-one was better-suited to play Makeda, a character that was written specifically to show the strength of a beautiful, powerful and determined woman.’
It would appear that South African talent is taking off more and more in the film industry, and we are so glad. With hits such as Happiness Is A Four Letter Word still bringing home the big bucks, and this incredible achievement from Pearl and Nicola, hopefully, before we know it, Charlize Theron will be one of many South Africans representing on the international red carpet.
We can’t wait to see our local talent kicking ass on the big screen! Well done, Pearl and Nicola. We have no doubt you’ll be incredible.
