So we all know James Bond. The secret agent, seducer of women, and drinker of martinis (shaken not stirred). The famous agent dove into pop culture as the lead character in Ian Flemming novels and was portrayed on screen by Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, and of course, Daniel Craig.

With Craig hanging up the mantle soon, fans have been speculating over who will take over the role while many have guessed Idris Elba, Henry Cavill or Richard Madden. However, the Daily Mail has revealed that Bond 25 will introduce Lashana Lynch as the new 007.

Instead of replacing James Bond himself, the Captain Marvel actress will be playing a new secret agent who will have his license to kill. The article also suggests that Bond will attempt to seduce Lynch’s character (of course).

‘There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says, ‘Come in 007,’ and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman,’ the insider said, adding: ‘It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman,’ the Daily Mail states.

The film is to be directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, and is being co-written by Fukunaga and Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge. It will be in theatres in 2020, the cast also features Léa Seydoux (who joined Craig as Bond’s love interest in Spectre) and  Naomie Harris who will be playing the role of Eve Moneypenny for the third time.

Even though the character of Bond, who was written as male by Flemming isn’t reimagined as female, we applaud the efforts of the director of the film to increase inclusion and representation of a badass female in one of the most relevant action franchises of our times.
