Over the weekend, Disney released the first trailer for the upcoming live-action remake of the 1998 animated film Mulan. The movie is to be directed by Niki Caro the director of The Zookeeper’s Wife and McFarland, USA, among others.
Mulan will be played by Liu Yifei, a Chinese-American actress. Yifei will portray the woman who, according to a popular Chinese legend, disguised herself as a man to fight in her father’s place. The remake of the movie promises plenty of action, but some of the changes that have been made include the exclusion of Mulan’s sidekick Mushu which has many fans of the original movie upset.
The trailer starts with the announcement of Mulan’s arranged marriage by her parents and then shows a few fighting scenes.
The film, which is to be released May 2020, will become part of the number of Disney films that have gotten a live-action remake this past few years: The Jungle Book, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and the recently announced cast of The Little Mermaid.
Casual, just sitting on the edge of our sits until autumn.
