Taking to her Instagram account, Mihlali shared a picture of a small semicolon tattoo behind her ear. The symbol is known globally, and is associated with suicide prevention and mental-health awareness. The ink is to honour Mihlali’s late father, who sadly took his life in 2018.
‘I’ve never been comfortable with speaking publicly about this, but yeah, I hope it helps someone who’s going through something and is considering taking their life,’ she shared via her IG Story. She used the opportunity to share an important message with her followers, saying: ‘Know and understand that there is no obstacle you cannot overcome. You can always rewrite your story, start a new chapter – your story doesn’t have to end now. Believe in your ability to create new things.’
