When Meghan Markle met Michelle Obama on Monday night, not only did they embody every single bit of #friendshipgoals, but they talked about how to advance girls’ education. It looks like Meghan’s already making good on her half of that conversation.
In a previously-unannounced meeting, the Duchess of Sussex went to King’s College London today to speak with the Association of Commonwealth Universities. She and the other guests talked about what they could do to address ‘human trafficking and modern slavery, gender equality and inclusion, peace and reconciliation, and climate change and resilience.’ You know, typical, everyday stuff.
Today we brought together university leaders, academics & #students to discuss how we can build a better world through #highered. We were honoured to be joined by HRH The Duchess of Sussex. Thanks to @KingsCollegeLon for hosting! https://t.co/SoowV30PFS pic.twitter.com/ugFQP46Gbg

There’s only one photo from the event, and it’s the one in that ^ tweet. The whole thing was very much kept under wraps until after the fact.
From the get-go, Meghan has been clear about wanting to focus on education and female empowerment in her role as HRH. During her royal tour with Prince Harry, she gave a speech about how much her own education gave her the tools to succeed.
‘Everyone should be afforded the opportunity to receive the education they want, but more importantly, the education they have the right to receive. And for women and girls in developing countries, this is vital,’ she said in her first formal speech as a royal.
A powerful first speech as the Duchess of Sussex: “Everyone should be afforded the opportunity to receive the education they want, but more importantly the education they have the right to receive. And for women and girls in developing countries, this is vital.”

Basically, she’s super committed to this goal and already working hard to make it a reality, even if she’s not being super public about it, aka she’s killing the whole Duchess thing.
