Middle Eathers unite! The cast of the new Lord of the Rings series has been announced

Time to get our archery skills up to scratch!

Lord of the Rings cast announced

LOTR-hive, time to get out your hobbit ears and reignite your Legolas fanfiction, Lord of the Rings is back – with an all-new cast.

A prequel series of the popular film series is being created by Amazon Studios and set to drop in 2021. Filming will begin in New Zealand in February 2020, and the table reads are currently taking place.

The prequel will take place during the Second Age of Middle Earth (for those taking notes the event of the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films took place in the Third Age) which spanned a period of about three and a half millennia in Middle Earth.

Amazon previously published a map showing the ‘lost island’ of Númenor which has sunk by the time that the films took place. So we can assume that Númenor and the people that live there will feature in the series. Númenor is also where the films’ big bad, Sauron comes from. Could this be Sauron’s origin story?

So, who’s going to be in this?

Robert Amaramayo, who many might remember as Young Ned Stark in Game of Thrones (Sean Bean, who played older Ned Stark, played Boromir in Lord of the Rings) has been cast as the lead character, Beldor. He replaces Will Poulter, who had to exit the series due to scheduling conflicts.

Hello LOVES! Just wanted to acknowledge the news of my joining the delicious cast of @lotronprime aka The Lord Of The Rings and to thank all the Tolkien/LOTR fans, authorities and philosophisers for their extremely generous and kind wishes of support. I am truly grateful for this experience and hope to satisfy (and hopefully exceed!) your expectations. I don’t want to devalue your excitement as I think art and beauty can truly change the world. But I do want to convey my awareness of how unimportant my personal professional journey is at this time of such devastating environmental destruction in my home country of Australia. I am in shock like every other Aussie and global citizen. It’s NEW. It’s devastating. Spiritually challenging. Historically shameful. We MUST now become the world leaders in transitioning to carbon neutrality as a result of this disaster. That is the ONLY acceptable/useful/meaningful option. Our politicians must act in our planet’s interest. There’s no more road left to “kick the can down”. You are the ones who landed the gig. Just be human please. Abandon destructive self interested alliances, they are lightweight, pointless and ultimately unreliable. A passage from Tolkien in The Return Of The King: “The rule of no realm is mine, neither of Gondor nor any other, great or small. But all worthy things that are in peril as the world now stands, those are my care. And for my part, I shall not wholly fail of my task, though Gondor should perish, if anything passes through this night that can still grow fair or bear fruit and flower again in days to come. For I also am a steward.” ~ Gandalf Love, Tom Xo
