In October 2016, the world was shook when news reports revealed that reality star, Kim Kardashian had been robbed while in Paris for Fashion Week.
The heist had Kim lose over nine million euros (about R151 million) worth of jewellery, while she was threatened by a gun, tied up and gagged in the bathroom of her residence.
The news story was adapted into a 130-page graphic novel by Joann Sfar, a French writer and director. The graphic novel has not been published yet but has been optioned for a film, according to AP.
Fashion Week, as the film will be called, is about a group of old school criminals who ‘eye up the jewellery of an influential celebrity and find themselves swept up in the whirlwind of the fashion world.’
Joann Sfar also admitted that the film (and graphic novel) is ‘liberally based on the raid on Kim Kardashian.’
The film is co-written by Marion Festraets, who also wrote the film Moloch. It is currently in development and talks are taking place with distributors.
Since 2016, eleven people have been arrested in connection to the robbery. Most of those arrested were French career gangsters.
The robbery of the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star has been the biggest heist of one individual in France in 20 years.
Even though there have been arrests, only one piece of jewellery has been found. One of the five robbers dropped a diamond-encrusted cross while he was running away from the scene on a bicycle and it was picked up by a pedestrian.
One of the suspects admitted to the police that he struggled to find a buyer for Kim’s 18.88-carat diamond ring, which she flaunted on Instagram as a gift from her husband, Kanye West.
He said the ring was ‘too recognisable.’
The French police are still trying to track down the rest of Kim’s jewellery but they think that it was sold in Belgium.
