Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ remake has found its Prince Eric and we are in love

Meet Jonah Hauer-King ?

Ever since Halle Bailey was cast as Ariel in The Little Mermaid live-action remake, the next question on our lips has been, who is going to play Prince Eric? Rumours were swirling that the blue-eyed, black-haired, white-shirt-wearing man of our dreams might be brought to life by one, Mr Harry Styles. Prince Eric, however, will be played by a relatively new actor, Jonah Hauer-King.

So what should you know about Jonah Hauer-King:

1. He is 24-years-old. Halle is 19-years-old, which means there is only a five-year-gap between the two actors.

2. Jonah’s mom, Debra Hauer is an American theatre producer and his dad, Jeremy King is a restauranteur and one half of the restaurant group, Corbin & King. Jonah holds dual UK-American citizenship, according to EW.

3. He attended Cambridge University and majored in theology and religious studies.

4. His previous acting credits include A Dog’s Way Home, BBC’s 2017 miniseries of Little Women and the upcoming Once Upon A Time in Staten Island alongside Naomi Watts.

5. Even though Prince Eric doesn’t sing in the original animated film, Jonah does have the singing chops if needs be. Here’s a video of him singing Leonard Cohen’s Hallulujah:

Jonah is the latest cast member to be added to the film. He joins Halle as Ariel, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, and Awkwafina as Scuttle.

There has been no word yet about when the movie will start filming, but according to The Hollywood Reporter it is set to begin in early 2020.

Fans seemed super excited with the casting:
