Guys, I have the BEST news. Harry Styles, certified rock star, a former member of One Direction, and light of our lives may be our Prince Eric in Disney’s live-action version of The Little Mermaid.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the ‘Kiwi’ singer is in early talks to star in the Rob Marshall remake, which has already cast Halle Bailey of Chloe x Halle as Ariel. Awkwafina is also set to star as Scuttle, while Jacob Tremblay (the adorable kid from Room) will be our Flounder. Melissa McCarthy is also in negotiations to play Ursula, but Lizzo is shooting her shot as well.

Apparently, Harry has been looking for a juicy new role for a bit and even made a play for Elvis in the biopic that ultimately cast Austin Butler.
According to one film reporter, Harry has been in talks to play Prince Eric for a while, but he was holding out, hoping to play the leather-clad rock star instead. Their loss is Disney’s gain: Dunkirk, Harry’s first-ever acting gig, scored $526 million worldwide. Smart move.
Styles was the choice for awhile but there were rumblings he was expected to pass, in hopes he would get Elvis instead. Sounds like he smartly held the offer until the ELVIS decision was made and went with his next option https://t.co/sTKwysNJwt

It’s all kinda funny, considering he said back in 2017 that he was retiring from acting. But hey, I’m not complaining…and neither is Twitter:

I’m personally not a fan of the Disney remakes but the thought of seeing halle bailey and harry styles together as ariel and eric makes me so fucking excited https://t.co/7M7nrez3NO

Now the only thing we have to worry about is Eric’s lack of singing in the original Disney animation. Luckily, the Broadway version fixed all that. No shade to whoever ends up playing Sebastian, but my new goal in life is to hear Harry sing at least part of ‘Kiss the Girl.’
Unfortunately, it’s going to be a slightly long wait to see anyone in that sexy white blouse. The Little Mermaid won’t go into production until the start of 2020, and the role of Prince Eric is still unconfirmed. If Harry doesn’t end up signing on, I’m open to any other pop stars taking a stab…*cough* Shawn Mendes *cough*.
