Enhle Mbali confirms she has filed for divorce from Black Coffee

Divorce rumours have been circulating for months and earlier this year, there were rumours that Black Coffee was having an affair with David Guetta’s ex-wife, Cathy Lobé.

Black Coffee took to Twitter to deny these claims saying: ‘1. It’s quite sad that on social media people are so quick to confidently vilify & lynch people without a shred of evidence ITO wrongdoing. For the Record: Cathy Guetta is nothing more than a business partner and shall remain so for the foreseeable future.’

However, this morning Enhle posted a rather emotional black-and-white video confirming the news. The couple have been married for eight years and have two kids together.

Enhle goes on to say that, in the past, when reporters have asked her about her relationship with Black Coffee, she has stuck to a ‘no comment’ response and that this is what worked for her. She says that she woke up today, to the news that her divorce had been made public.

‘The situation that is happening right now in my life right is indeed happening. But I would also like a bit of space with regards to questions and so forth… I do believe that the system will do what is due and what is fair,’ she said. ‘All I ask is…for, silence. Not for me or anyone else, but for my children. Everything I have done to this day is to protect my children.’

Enhle also stresses that it has been a ‘very, very, very tough year’ for her but that she still stands ‘tall and proud’. She also says that this is ‘indeed a situation that no one wants to see themselves in but here we are.’

She goes on to recite a thought-provoking quote from Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi’s TED Talk, titled ‘We Should All Be Feminists’. The verse was also in Beyoncé’s song Flawless, that speaks about feminism.

‘We teach girls to shrink themselves, to make themselves smaller. We say to girls, “you can have ambition”, but not too much. You should aim to be successful, but not too successful. Otherwise, you would threaten the man. Because I am female, I am expected to aspire to marriage. I am expected to make my life choices always keeping in mind that marriage is the most important. Now marriage can be a source of joy and love and mutual support but why do we teach girls to aspire to marriage and we don’t teach boys the same? We raise girls to see each other as competitors not for jobs or accomplishments, which I think can be a good thing, but for the attention of men.’

She finishes off by saying: ‘This, I know, is a narrative for a lot of women. And I, stand today and fight.
