What’re your plans for the weekend? Nothing? Well, mine too! Luckily the SA entertainment and live events industries have come together to give us an epic 3-day streaming festival featuring 33 SA artists, called the DreamStream Festival.
And to get you in that *festival* feel you can also enjoy the music privately in ‘DreamCamps’ with your homies (up to 500 people, if the real popular ones) via Zoom, where you can have your private dance parties and do all the other festival-y things you are used to.
Tickets for this event is free, but everyone who is attending is encouraged to donate. The funds will go towards SAFE (South African Fund 4 Entertainment) which is an NPO that takes care of crew members from the live events and entertainment industries who are struggling due to the coronavirus pandemic and the nationwide lockdown. The fund is hoping to raise R1m in order to feed 11 000 crew members. The rig members include technicians, stage riggers, cleaners, security guards, bar staff, ticketing staff and others, who are usually employed on a temporary basis. SAFE has also partnered with Pick n Pay’s Feed the Nation relief fund, which means that every rand donated will go towards a voucher scheme to support the families of the crew members.
The festival will have DJ’s play 1-hour supermixes from genres that include EDM, House, Hip-Hop and Amapiano.
