The Drakensberg Boys Choir is renowned for producing stars like the Bala brothers and Jean-Phillip Grobler (St. Lucia). The current 54 members of the choir recently performed on-stage at the 20th anniversary of The Lion King with composer Lebo M in London.
The performance, which took place at the Lyceum Theatre, was part of a surprise tribute to the creative team that produces the show.
Lebo M was the composer of the original animated film and the stage play.
One of the members of the choir, Matthew Beuster was quoted by their official Twitter account as saying, ‘That was the best thing ever. We went on, and it was nerve-racking, the audience went crazy when they found out we were there. When the gumboot squad came out to dance with Lebo M, everyone went crazy. This is the best performance I’ve ever had.’

While in the UK, the Drakensberg Boys Choir also performed at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, Great St. Mary’s Church and King’s College, amongst other venues.
