South African artist Dope Saint Jude’s song ‘Grrrl Like’ is in the ‘Dickinson’ trailer

Um, this is MAJOR.

We can’t help but applaud South African musicians making waves internationally, from Black Coffee DJing in clubs across the world, to Sho Madjozi’s music going viral, and Beyoncé collaborating with Moonchild Sanelly and Busiswa. Now, London-based hip-hop artist Dope Saint Jude’s song is being used in the upcoming Apple+ series Dickinson trailer.

Dope Saint Jude (Catherine St Jude Pretorius) posted about her excitement on Twitter by saying, ‘So my track Grrrl Like is the soundtrack to the Dickinson trailer, a show about the life of poet Emily Dickinson. I am ecstatic because she was a pretty huge deal to me as a teenager. S/O to my management and publishing team for being passionate about my music!’

Sho Madjozi replied to her tweet with ‘EPIC!’

Grrrl Like was released in 2018 and is from her debut album Resilient.

The music video for the song was directed by Dope Saint Jude herself.

Dickinson stars Hailee Steinfeld as Emily, and it’s a half-hour comedy series that features the antics and rebelliousness of the young poet. It will premiere on Apple TV+ on 1 November 2019.
