Okay, but how much fun was DJ Shimza’s Quarantine Online Party?

The groove right in your bedroom.

DJ Shimza online quarantine party

After President Cyril Ramaphosa prohibited events of over 100 people in order to curb the transmission of the coronavirus, peeps have had to be creative when it comes to partying. DJ Shimza took this as a challenge as he created a live Quarantine Online Party featuring some of SA’s hottest DJ’s.

The lineup included DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small, DJ Zinhle, Black Motion, DJ PH and, of course, DJ Shimza.

The DJ sets were live on Facebook and Instagram from 6 pm on Saturday.

The Quarantine Online Party was a huge success but musician Sho Madjozi couldn’t help but draw attention to the fact that all the DJ’s used the same equipment and were in one house. She said, ‘I was so impressed by the kanti the DJs and their friends were all touching the same equipment and grooving in one house…Like that’s literally still a party… among people who are the highest risk of spreading it. I.e people who’ve been travelling all over the country and world recently..’

Shimza replied to Sho Madjozi by saying, ‘Hey sis, your concerns r understood. We had >40 people in the venue, most being people who were working on the stream making sure that it worked well. Equipment was sanitized, we as djs+ crew kept sanitizing, some wore masks, we tried to avoid contact..we’ll do better on the next.’

Sho Madjozi, then, responded by reiterating the importance of social distancing, ‘Well done on the idea (it was dope!) and that there were measures taken. The missing ingredient was social distancing. It’s extremely important especially for people in our industry because we travel a lot. Glad that you are open to improve. That’s how we will win this thing.’

We can’t wait for the next one!
